According to Sources, Apparent Immigration Agent Impersonation in Brooklyn Leads to Attempted Rape

NEW YORK — The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is searching for a man who allegedly impersonated an immigration agent before attempting to rape and rob a woman in Brooklyn Heights on Tuesday morning.

Details of the Attack

  • Incident Location: 135 Montague St., Brooklyn Heights
  • Time: Around 11 a.m.
  • Victim: 51-year-old woman, waiting for a cab in the building lobby
  • Suspect’s Approach:
    • Identified himself as “Immigration”, but did not show a badge or identification.
    • Forced the woman into a basement stairwell, punched her, and stole her chain, phone, and purse.
    • The victim suffered cuts and bruises but managed to escape.

After the attack, the suspect fled down Henry Street.

Community Reacts to the Attack

The incident has left Brooklyn Heights residents shaken.

“For someone to impersonate that and be like, ‘Oh, I work with ICE, come with me,’ of course this lady is going to be in shock and be scared,” said local resident Uziel Aguirre.

Longtime worker in the area, Ruth Brito, expressed concerns:

“I’ve been in this area for five, six years working. I don’t even feel safe.”

Another resident called the attack “scary”, emphasizing the need for increased security.
