After Season 2, Chuck Lorre's Max Comedy Show With 90% RT Was Canceled

Despite its strong reviews and fan reception, Bookie has been canceled at Max after just two seasons. The Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay-created comedy, which debuted in 2023, followed Danny Colavito (Sebastian Maniscalco), a veteran bookie navigating the challenges of legalized sports betting.

  • Premiere Date: 2023
  • Seasons: 2
  • Rotten Tomatoes Score: 90% Tomatometer, 86% Audience Score

Max Confirms Bookie Will Not Return for Season 3

In an official statement, Max acknowledged the show’s success and talented cast but confirmed it would not move forward with a third season:

“For two seasons, creators Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay and their hilarious cast, led by Sebastian Maniscalco, made us laugh while pulling back the curtain on the world of sports betting. We won’t be moving forward with a third season, but we are grateful to have worked with such a brilliant team on this laugh-out-loud comedy.”

Why Was Bookie Canceled?

Bookie’s cancellation is surprising, considering:

  • It had strong audience and critic reviews.
  • Lorre is one of TV’s most successful sitcom creators (The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, Dharma & Greg).
  • Max is currently working with Lorre on a Big Bang Theory spinoff, making their decision even more unexpected.

However, Bookie may not have met Max’s viewership or financial expectations, proving that even well-received shows from industry giants aren’t guaranteed renewals.
