Orange County, CA — Four individuals were arrested early Sunday morning following a pair of possibly gang-related shootings in Orange County, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD).
The incident began around 12:45 a.m. when deputies responded to reports of gunfire near Calle Campana and Calle Canasta in San Clemente.
“While patrol checking the area, deputies located shell casings and other evidence of a possible shooting,” the OCSD said in an official statement.
High-Speed Pursuit and Arrests
Shortly after discovering the crime scene, authorities located a suspicious vehicle in Dana Point that was potentially linked to the shootings. Deputies attempted to stop the car, which eventually yielded in San Juan Capistrano.
- Two suspects fled the vehicle on foot; one was seen carrying a handgun.
- Both individuals were quickly caught and detained following a brief foot chase.
- Two additional occupants who stayed inside the vehicle were also arrested without incident.
Weapons and Ammunition Recovered
After securing the suspects, deputies conducted a thorough sweep of the area and recovered:
- Two handguns
- Several rounds of ammunition
A secondary search of the initial San Clemente crime scene revealed no victims, and authorities believe no injuries occurred during the shooting.
Gang-Related Investigation Underway
The OCSD Gang Unit has joined the investigation to determine whether the shootings were gang-related. While the investigation remains ongoing, deputies believe the incident was isolated and pose no further danger to the public.
“At this time, we have no reason to believe this is anything other than an isolated incident,” deputies told KCAL News.
