Disturbing 'HELP' signs in Los Angeles on Google Maps spark human trafficking conspiracy—but here's the truth.

Los Angeles residents were left puzzled after Google Earth users spotted eerie messages spelled out on the ground, leading to widespread online speculation. Words like “HELP,” “TRAFFICO” (traffic), “TERRORISMO” (terrorism), “LAPD,” “FEDERAL,” and “FBI” were found written using various materials near a storage or waste facility in downtown LA.

The discovery quickly fueled theories about possible human trafficking or criminal activity in the area. However, local residents have provided a much simpler explanation for the mysterious signs.

What Did Google Earth Users Find?

The unusual messages were discovered in a plot of land about one mile east of Los Angeles City Hall, near the Los Angeles River, North Mission Road, and E Cesar E Chavez Avenue. The exact coordinates, as reported by DailyMail.com, are 34°03’18″N 118°13’30″W.

In addition to the words, some internet users noticed what appeared to be tunnels or holes nearby, leading to further speculation that these could be used for illegal activities. Many assumed that someone was trying to alert law enforcement or the public about a hidden crime operation.

Locals Explain the Messages

While the speculation grew online, people who live in the area quickly debunked the theories. According to an X (formerly Twitter) user named “LAguy,” he visited the site and spoke to a homeless woman who revealed that a man named José has been writing these messages for years.

“(José’s) the one who puts (help) all the time. He writes it everywhere… it’s been years,” she explained.

Other locals confirmed this, with one resident posting:

“Live in the area, it’s a homeless dude who isn’t all there. Been doing it for a few years now. Paints it on roads and sidewalks, uses rocks and other materials and lays them out next to freeways to spell out ‘HELP.’”

No Evidence of Human Trafficking or Criminal Activity

Despite the concerns raised by social media users, officials and law enforcement have not issued any statements regarding the messages. Additionally, there is no evidence suggesting that human trafficking or other crimes are happening at the location.

However, some internet users remain skeptical and are calling for further investigation. One concerned X user wrote:

“The ‘HELP’ signs in LA are concerning, especially with the trafficking speculation. It’s unsettling. I hope the situation is clarified soon. Looking forward to further investigation.”

While the disturbing messages initially sparked fears of criminal activity, the reality appears to be much less sinister. According to locals, a homeless man named José has been creating these signs for years, though his exact reasoning remains unknown.

Although authorities have yet to comment, there is no verified link between the messages and human trafficking. The situation highlights how quickly online speculation can turn into conspiracy theories, especially when mysterious signs like these are found in urban areas.
