French Valley Crash Kills a Pedestrian

A 31-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed while walking along Winchester Road (SR-79) near Skyview Road in French Valley on Monday night, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

What Happened?

  • The victim was walking in the No. 1 lane when a 2019 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 approached.
  • The driver did not see the pedestrian in the lane, leading to a fatal collision.

CHP Officer Mike Lassig stated:

“The driver was unable to see the pedestrian walking in the lane. The Mercedes’ front end collided into the pedestrian.”

Emergency Response:

  • The driver immediately pulled over and called 911.
  • Paramedics arrived and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
  • The driver sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.

Investigation & Next Steps

Police Findings:

  • Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors.
  • No arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
