While Thursday morning’s rainstorm caused traffic slowdowns and multiple crashes, the worst of the storm is expected to arrive during the evening commute, bringing intense rainfall and potential flooding.
When Will the Heaviest Rain Arrive?
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the most severe rainfall and storm activity will occur between 4 to 9 p.m., with rain rates reaching up to 1 inch per hour—five to 10 times stronger than the morning’s downpour.
Storm Timeline by Region:
- Ventura County → 2 to 4 p.m.
- Metro Los Angeles → 4 to 6 p.m.
- Orange County & Inland Empire → 6 to 8 p.m.
- Most of the rain will clear by 8 p.m., but flooding concerns will continue into Friday.
“Even though it may be sunny tomorrow morning, flooding concerns will persist throughout the day,” said KCAL Meteorologist Paul Deanno.
Traffic & Safety Concerns
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported approximately 40 vehicle crashes in Los Angeles County by 7 a.m. Thursday, mostly involving solo spinouts due to wet roads.
Drivers are urged to:
- Slow down on wet roads
- Watch for flooded areas
- Expect delays during evening rush hour
As the storm intensifies this evening, commuters should prepare for dangerous road conditions, heavy rainfall, and possible flooding. Even after the storm clears tonight, officials warn that flood risks will continue into Friday.
