A boil water advisory remains in place for Hoboken, New Jersey, as of Wednesday, following a major water main break near 18th Street and Jersey Avenue. However, the advisory has been lifted for Jersey City after repairs were completed.
Water Main Break and Repairs
The advisory was issued on Tuesday after a 36-inch water main broke on the border of Hoboken and Jersey City. On Wednesday, Veolia, the utility company, announced that emergency repairs had been completed, and crews were working to restore water pressure to affected customers.
Residents experiencing discolored water are advised to flush their cold water taps until the water runs clear.
Cause of the Break
Officials believe the structural issue that led to the break was due to the age of the pipes, many of which are over 100 years old. The disruption impacted residents, businesses, and schools, causing late school openings and business closures on Tuesday.
