Jordan Calls Criticism of Federal Employee Overhaul 'Ridiculous'

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has strongly defended the federal job cuts under the Trump administration, dismissing some of the backlash as “ridiculous.” Speaking on Fox News Sunday, Jordan addressed the recent restructuring efforts led by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which aims to reduce what the administration views as unnecessary government spending.

The Controversy Over Job Cuts

Jordan specifically responded to a story from The Washington Post, which highlighted the removal of a locksmith at a California national park. This locksmith was reportedly responsible for unlocking restrooms when visitors got stuck inside.

Mocking the situation, Jordan remarked,

“The real question is, how do visitors get locked in restrooms? I mean, this is how ridiculous some of this thing is.”

He argued that using isolated incidents like this to criticize larger government cuts was unreasonable and dismissed these critiques as distractions from the broader issue of government waste.

Acknowledging Mistakes, But Standing Firm

While Jordan admitted that mistakes could happen during such large-scale changes, he emphasized that the urgency of cutting government spending was justified. According to him, the Trump administration is simply delivering on campaign promises to reduce costs and streamline federal operations.

“There’s real urgency to cut back on wasteful spending,” Jordan said, standing by the administration’s rapid action.

Pushback from Democrats

Democrats have raised concerns that these cuts could negatively impact both federal employees and the services they provide to the public. Critics argue that sudden layoffs could lead to operational problems and harm livelihoods.

However, Jordan dismissed these concerns, labeling them as “pretty darn crazy” arguments. He believes that rather than criticizing the administration, lawmakers should focus on eliminating what he views as “stupid spending.”

“Instead of Democrats attacking the guy who’s exposing the stupid spending, how about helping us get rid of the stupid spending?” Jordan concluded.
