New Shelter for Eaton Fire Evacuees Opens in Duarte

A new shelter for Eaton Fire evacuees will soon open in Duarte, replacing the Pasadena Civic Auditorium shelter, which is preparing to close. Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger confirmed that displaced residents currently housed at the Pasadena shelter will be relocated to Pamela Park Gymnasium at 2236 Goodall Avenue in Duarte.

Why Is the Shelter Moving?

The Pasadena Civic Auditorium was initially set up as a temporary shelter for those displaced by the Eaton Fire. However, when it was designated as a shelter, officials requested that the facility be returned to the City of Pasadena after the first week of February.

  • An extension was granted to allow time to find a new location.
  • The American Red Cross and Los Angeles County officials worked together to select a shelter site closer to the evacuees’ original neighborhoods.

The move aims to keep evacuees near community resources and support networks, making it easier for them to access essential services.

Support for Evacuees

The American Red Cross has assigned a shelter resident transition specialist to every household affected by the fire.

These specialists provide:

  • Transportation assistance for evacuees.
  • Help with relocation plans.
  • Support for long-term recovery efforts.

As the Pasadena shelter closes, the new Duarte shelter at Pamela Park Gymnasium will provide continued support for Eaton Fire evacuees. The American Red Cross and county officials are working to ensure a smooth transition and ongoing assistance for those affected.
