Recent social media posts have sparked concerns about possible immigration raids in the Los Angeles area. While some users claim that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were seen conducting operations, there has been no official confirmation of any such enforcement activities.
Social Media Speculation and Confusion
The rumors began circulating after a report from the New York Post suggested immigration raids were happening in L.A. However, CALÓ News has been unable to verify any ICE-led enforcement operations.
One Instagram video posted by user eastloslosangeles90022 shows an officer wearing a vest labeled HSI, which stands for Homeland Security Investigations. While HSI is part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), it operates separately from ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), which primarily handles immigration enforcement.
Other social media posts include images and videos of officers in uniform, but it remains unclear whether they are affiliated with ICE.
Officials Deny ICE Presence in South Gate
A post on social media claimed that ICE officers were spotted in South Gate, a city in Southeast Los Angeles County. To verify this, CALÓ News reached out to South Gate City Councilmember Gil Hurtado, who responded that he was unaware of any ICE activity in the area.
After reviewing a screenshot from social media, Hurtado stated:
“If you look at the uniform, these are not ICE agents. I’m not quite sure what these are or what specifically is going on here, but it’s not ICE.”
This statement further raises doubts about whether the reported enforcement actions were actually immigration-related.
Awaiting Official Confirmation from ICE
To clear up the confusion, CALÓ News contacted an ICE representative to inquire about any recent operations in Los Angeles. As of now, there has been no response from ICE, but the publication has promised to update the public if any new information is received.
While concerns about immigration enforcement remain high, there is no confirmed evidence that ICE has been conducting raids in Los Angeles. The presence of HSI officers in at least one video suggests a different type of federal operation, but the exact nature of these activities remains unclear. Until ICE or Homeland Security provides an official statement, residents should be cautious about unverified social media reports.
