In a dramatic rescue caught on video, firefighters in San Bernardino saved a 23-year-old woman trapped inside her burning home. The Romero family lost everything in the fire, but their gratitude knows no bounds as their beloved daughter, Alise Romero, was pulled to safety through her bedroom window by a team of courageous firefighters.
A Family’s Worst Nightmare
The fire broke out around 11 a.m. on Monday on the 1300 block of N. Valencia Avenue. Flames quickly engulfed the Romero family’s home of 25 years. While two people managed to escape, Alise, who has special needs and is nonverbal, was trapped inside. Her mother, Elizabeth Romero, recalled the heart-wrenching moment when she realized her daughter was still inside.
“I just prayed and prayed to the Lord to give the firefighters the strength they needed to do what they needed to do,” Elizabeth said tearfully.
The Brave Rescue Mission
Upon receiving the emergency call, Captain Nic Turner and his crew from the San Bernardino County Fire Department rushed to the scene. They faced heavy smoke, intense heat, and rapidly spreading flames.
“My crew and I immediately made entry into the structure and pushed down the hallway,” Captain Turner shared. “We had heavy smoke, heat, and fire blowing from above us.”
Despite the dangerous conditions, the firefighters pressed on, determined to save Alise. Then, amidst the chaos, they heard her faint scream—a lifeline that guided them to her location.
A Moment of Relief
Captain Turner recounted the emotional moment when he reached Alise.
“I grabbed the girl and said, ‘Don’t worry, I got you. I’m not going to let you go.’”
With no time to spare, Turner and his crew carefully pulled Alise through her bedroom window to safety. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition.
A Family’s Gratitude
Though the Romero family lost their home and all their belongings, they are overwhelmed with gratitude for the firefighters’ heroic efforts.
A tearful Elizabeth Romero had a heartfelt message for the team that saved her daughter:
“Thank you so much.”
This powerful story is a reminder of the bravery and dedication of firefighters who risk their lives daily to save others. The Romero family’s loss is heartbreaking, but thanks to the heroic actions of Captain Turner and his crew, Alise’s life was spared—a glimmer of hope amidst the devastation.
